Adam Qualifies For USports Championships

(HALIFAX, NS) On the first day of Dalhousie University's Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim Meet, 15 swimmers met U Sports championship qualifying times, including UNB's Lauren Adam(Fredericton, NB).

In the women's 50-metre breaststroke heats, Adam swam second behind Memorial's Veronica Reid. Adam's time of 33.29 seconds was six-one-hundredths of a second underneath the qualifying standard.

UNB's Justin LeBlanc(Dieppe, NB) was fastest in the men's 50-metre breaststroke heats. His time of 29.32 seconds was just a tenth-of-a-second off the U Sports qualifying standard.

The host Tigers had five swimmers make their U Sports mark in six events on day one.

McGill University saw six swimmers qualify for the national university championship meet.

Former Varsity Red Charli LeBlanc(Yarmouth, NS), now swimming for Memorial, was second in the women's 50m backstroke preliminaries with a U Sports-qualifying time.

Acadia had one swimmer qualify for the U Sport meet too.

At the end of day one, Dalhousie captured all four finals, including both 800m freestyle relays, and leads both the men's and women's team totals.

Day two of the Kemp-Fry Invitational starts Saturday 10:00AM with preliminaries, followed by finals at 5:00PM.
