Varsity Reds Represented At Universiade

(TAIPEI CITY, Taiwan) The 2017 FISU Summer Universiade begins in Taipei City, Taiwan, on Friday, August 18th.

Opening ceremonies will take place on Saturday, August 19th.

The Varsity Reds will be well represented at these Games.

Canada’s men’s soccer team will be coached by Varsity Reds head coach Miles Pinsent, who includes coaches Barry Morrison and George Lucas on his Team Canada staff.

Current UNB players Marcus Lees, Kalen Park and Evan Barker, along with incoming recruit Tristan Nkoghe are part of the men’s soccer team.

Javon Masters, of UNB’s men’s basketball team, has been selected to Canada’s men’s basketball team.

Former Varsity Reds men’s volleyball standout Sam Alves is a member of Australia’s men’s volleyball team in Taipei.

Taipei City is 13 hours ahead of Atlantic Daylight Time.

But, as of August 16, the FISU TV schedule had not been announced.

CBC will stream a daily highlights package between 12:00-12:30pm Atlantic.

Of note, on Monday, August 21, CBC Sports will stream the men’s soccer game against Japan. It is scheduled to air between 5:00-7:00am Atlantic. On Friday, August 25, they’ll stream Canada’s men’s basketball against Germany. It is scheduled to air between 4:00-5:45am Atlantic.
